Sharjah 24: Amidst a large audience, the hall of Sharjah Cultural Palace was full. In the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Al Owais, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Culture, and His Excellency Ismail Abdallah, Secretary General of the Arab Theatre Institute, Chairman of the Theatrical Association, and Head of the Festival, the activities of the 17th Emirates Children’s Theatre Festival started, on Sunday.
During a joyful opening ceremony, artist Bodour Al Sa’i, was honoured; the adult and children’s jury committees were introduced, and a documentary film about the festival was shown.
The emcee of the ceremony welcomed the attendees, praising the great care and generous support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, through which the festival has continued its presence playing a major role since its inception until now.
The documentary included an introduction to the festival and its most important stages since its first edition in 2005. The film also included an introductory overview of the festival’s personality, since her first appearance on stage in the year 2003, winning more than 20 awards in children's and adult theatre during her career.
After the end of the opening ceremony, the Dibba Society for Culture, Arts and Theatre troupe presented the play “The Other World”, written by Hamad Al Dhanhani, directed by Ibrahim Al Qahomi, and starring Ayman Al Khadeem, Adel Sabet, Abdullah Nabil, Judy, Mohammed Al Abdouli, Ali Al Ghais, Mona Al Belushi, Saeed Al Naour, Sultan Sharara, and others. Children interacted with the play, which sent many moral and educational messages, the most important of which the importance of science and discovery, in creating a generation capable of facing challenges.
