SCC polls committee closes electronic ballot boxes

Sharjah24: As part of the conduct of the electoral process, the Supreme Committee for the Sharjah Consultative Council Elections 2023 closed the electronic ballot boxes at the Sharjah Consultative Council this morning in preparation for the start of voting starting tomorrow, Tuesday.
The closing of the boxes was attended by Counselor Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Sharjah Government Legal Department and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Sharjah Consultative Council Elections and was attended by committee members: Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, and HE Asma Rashid Sultan bin Taliah, Secretary General of the Sharjah  Executive Council, HE Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Secretary General of the Sharjah Consultative Council, HE Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Sheikh Saud bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Digital Office, and Counselor Issa Saif bin Hanzal, Director of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah.

This came in the wake of the intense preparations by the Supreme Election Committee and the associated committees to begin the voting phase tomorrow, Tuesday, over a period of three days for those registered in electoral bodies, that is, from the December 5th to the 7th, through electronic voting on the dedicated SCC election website WWW.ECCS.SHJ.AE or in person at nine accredited electoral centers in the emirate.

The electronic voting system offers the voters a convenient and smooth option of casting their ballot, through the website designated for elections, 24 hours a day for three days, or on the Digital Sharjah app by using the digital identity of the ‘UAE PASS’. 
Following the approval of their vote, the system will allow the voters to select their choice of candidates from the list of names according to the electoral district with which they are affiliated. The process concludes successfully with the voter confirming the choice of their candidate.

The accredited voting centres in the Emirate of Sharjah will receive citizens who wish to visit the polling centres to exercise their vote. The polling centres have also made arrangements to receive elderly voters or those with visual impairment allowing them to cast their votes using their ID card over a period of three days, from 8 am to 8pm.

Mleiha Area: Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club
Al Madam District: Al Madam District Municipality
Al-Bataeh District: Al-Bataeh District Municipality
Khorfakkan City: Expo Centre Khorfakkan
Kalba City: Kalba Neighborhoods City Council
Dibba Al-Hisn: Dibba Al-Hisn City Council

Dr. Mansour Mohammed bin Nassar, Head of the Legal Department of the Government of Sharjah and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Sharjah Consultative Council, called on citizens registered in the nine electoral bodies to actively participate in the final stage of the Sharjah Consultative Council elections and vote to choose their candidates for the Council, after the remarkable success of elections during previous sessions and increase in the number of registered voters. 
Dr bin Nassar pointed out that the extraordinary interest of citizens to get themselves registered this time around reflects their interest in being part of the electoral and decision-making process. He stressed that the Election Committee has spared no effort to ensure the procedures for all stages of the electoral process, including the voting, are transparent and accurate in accordance with the global best practices. All physical arrangements and electronic systems are in place and are ready to receive citizens from tomorrow for the historic elections in Sharjah, he added.

The preliminary results of the SCC polls are scheduled to be announced on Thursday, December 7, 2023, followed by a period of two days of appeals, from December 8 to 9. The Election Committee’s decision on the appeals will be announced on December 10, so that the final list of winners or candidates will be approved, provided there are no by-elections, on December 11, 2023.
