Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity recipient Dr Wafa Al Shamsi spoke at a seminar titled "Semiotics of Characters in the Plays Awarded the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity." Dr Saeed Al Amoudi, a prominent member of the media from the Cultural and Media Office, moderated the discussion.
Dr Al Shamsi, winner of the Sharjah Award for Gulf Women's Creativity, based her research on four plays aimed at children to stress that her major message is based on children's literature.
She said she read the plays through several times for her research and that she started by trying to figure out what the titles, characters, and plot points meant. She emphasised the need for the writer to take the initiative to educate themselves further and hone their analytical and research abilities so that their work has a greater impact.
