Sharjah 24: In a prestigious event held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, and graced by the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development, the winners of the ninth edition of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC) Race for Culture were celebrated and recognised.
The ceremony also honoured Mohamed Abdullah Safar as the Sports Personality of the Year and acknowledged the achievements of various sports and cultural clubs.

The Mleiha Sports and Cultural Club received the Excellence Shield, followed by the Khorfakkan Sports and Cultural Club in second place and Al Batayeh Sports and Cultural Club in third place. 

The ceremony was attended by a significant number of officials, led by His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, and Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Yassi, the head of the organising committee of the race. 

It also drew the participation of members of the Sharjah Sports Council, club leaders, representatives of supporting institutions and companies involved in organising the race, the organising committee as well as the families of the winners.

Issa Hilal Al Hazami, speaking on behalf of the Sharjah Sports Council, emphasised the race's importance as it aligns with one of the key strategic goals set by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. 

He stressed the significance of athletes having academic qualifications and continually enhancing their knowledge, talents, and skills. He congratulated the winners in various race categories and expressed gratitude to the institutions and organisations that contributed. Dr. Yasser Omar Al Dukhi then discussed the race's stages, with 461 participants from both genders, marking a citizen participation rate exceeding 72% of the total. He acknowledged the pivotal role played by the organising committee and various work teams. 

Following this, a recognition ceremony honoured Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi. Issa Hilal Al Hazami presented a commemorative shield bearing the race and council's emblem. Subsequently, the supporting institutions and organisations were acknowledged, including the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, the Khorfakkan Cultural Centre, the Dibba Cultural Centre, the Sharjah Culture Palace, the Wasit Centre, and the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club. Clubs and organisations that participated were recognised next, totaling 29 entities. 

Additionally, institutions with the highest participation in the race were acknowledged, with the Khorfakkan Cultural Sports Club taking the top spot, followed by the Muweilah Cultural Sports Club in second place and Al Batayeh Cultural Sports Club in third place. Finally, institutions excelling in the General Excellence Shield were honoured, with the Mleiha Cultural Sports Club securing the first place in the ninth edition of the race, followed by the Khorfakkan Cultural Sports Club in second place and Al Batayeh Cultural Sports Club in third place.
