Sharjah 24: The participation of the Arabic Language Education Centre for the Gulf States (ALECGS) came to an end at the "Lexical Industry Forum" organised by the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language last night, with the distinguished attendance of specialised entities in the Arabic language field, including linguistic academies, international institutions, and centres.
During this forum, the introduction of the "Riyadh Lexicon" was announced, representing a fresh linguistic and scientific accomplishment in the service of the Arabic language and its advancement. This lexicon relies on a unique technology for continuously updating its content by monitoring contemporary terms and vocabulary in current use.
In the future, the Academy, in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO), intends to launch the initial edition of the "Unified Arabic Terminology Lexicon" in a digital format. This aims to make it more accessible, facilitate its growth, and keep its data up-to-date in line with linguistic and scientific developments.
The ALECGS, situated in Sharjah, took part in the forum by delivering a scholarly presentation by Dr. Issa Al Hammadi, the centre's director, under the title "Efforts of the Arab Education Bureau and its Devices in Lexicography." The academic paper examined the endeavours of the Arab Education Bureau and its devices in creating diverse linguistic lexicons relevant to education and the Arabic language.
The paper stressed the significance of these lexicons in enhancing the teaching and development of the Arabic language among upcoming generations. It also highlighted the criteria for word selection and methods for evolving their meanings for utilisation in lexicons targeting various age groups.
It was pointed out that educational linguistic lexicons hold a valuable practical value that cannot be denied and represent a practical step toward reassessing Arabic language education curricula, contributing to the emergence of a new generation proficient in their language, expressing it with an Arabic tongue that showcases the cognitive and cultural aspects of our language and identity.
The forum came to a close with the international linguistic delegation visiting the Riyadh International Book Fair, where they explored the pavilion of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language and were briefed on the academy's contributions to the field of the Arabic language. Additionally, the Arab Education Bureau and its devices participated in the Riyadh International Book Fair.
