Sharjah24: According to Abdullah Sultan bin Khadim, director of Sharjah Charity International (SCI), His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and a key patron of charitable work in the Emirate, launched the mass weddings initiative as an exemplary endeavour.
The project's origins can be traced back to 1990, when His Highness ordered the association to organise the first mass wedding ever seen in the Middle East. Since then, it has grown to include many more nations in the region.

These significant wedding celebrations are a reflection of the wise leadership and sincere care shown by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his people.

Because of the escalating expense of dowries, many young people are hesitant to get married, but this effort can help change that attitude. It encourages devotion and a sense of national pride among people.

In addition to helping expats who have done outstanding work for the UAE, he said, the group would continue to carry out mass weddings, which have helped to create and establish many families among people who do not qualify for aid from the Marriage Fund.

Together with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE embassies in recipient countries, the association has expanded the initiative outside UAE boundaries, assisting hundreds of young people in establishing themselves economically and starting families.

Bin Khadim highlighted that the association has organised around 33 mass weddings, with a budget surpassing about 20 million dirhams. This includes 8 weddings within the country and 25 marriages in 11 countries covered by the association's initiatives overseas.

Following the commemoration of the 52nd National Day of the UAE, he said, the association is getting ready to host the ninth national mass wedding project, in which 150 bachelors from low-income households will take part.

As a further treat, the organisation will host the sixth mass wedding in the Kingdom of Bahrain, this time inviting 150 grooms to join in on the festivities.
