Mleiha Club launches “Laser Run” with 175 national players

Sharjah 24: The first Mleiha Club refresher tournament for modern pentathlon, “Laser Run,” was launched, Saturday, at the headquarters of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, which is the first tournament of the UAE modern pentathlon federation at the local level since the establishment of the federation.
The tournament is organised and hosted by Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club in cooperation with UAE modern pentathlon federation and under the auspices of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC).

Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club is the first club within the UAE to join the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, in addition to being the first club to announce the modern pentathlon game among its approved games.t

The tournament aims at introducing the participating players to the mechanism and conditions of the game, and preparing them for the World Laser Run Championship scheduled to be held on September 23, 2023 in Sharjah.

The tournament includes laser shooting athe tournament saw  the participation of 175 male and female national players, who come from differentt regions of the Emirates. 50 players from Mleiha Sports Club participated in the tournament, while the rest are from Fujairah Club, Al Bardi School in Fujairah, Zayed Educational Complex, and Mohammed bin Hamad School. 

The tournament opening was attended by Mohammed Sultan Al Khassouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mleiha Sports Club; Hamad Tamim Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Individual Games Committee; and Faisal Al Hammadi, Sports Administration Supervisor. As for the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, Dr. Hoda Al Matroushi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation, and Thani bin Sulaiman, Assistant Secretary, attended.

The tournament includes the participation of 45 players, and is divided into competitions for girls according to age groups (11, 13 and 15 years old) and competitions for males according to age groups (9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 years old).

It is noteworthy that every year the World Laser Run Championship is held in a different country, and the previous edition of the tournament was in France and the current edition is in England.

Mohammed Sultan Al Khassouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mleiha Sports Club, expressed his admiration for the great success of the tournament, in light of the constructive cooperation with the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation. 

Mohammed Sultan Al Khassouni said that the tournament is a special opportunity to see new talents shining in the laser run.
Al Khasouni added that the club is proud to organise the tournament and to support UAE male and female players in developing their skills and achieving their sporting ambitions. 
Mohammed Sultan Al Khassouni continued that the tournament included a series of matches and qualifiers with the aim of selecting the best elements according to specific criteria to represent the UAE internationally. He also praised the role of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation and its great cooperation efforts.

Dr. Hoda Al Matrooshi, President of the Emirates Modern Pentathlon Federation, said that the federaion is grateful to the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club for hosting this wonderful Laser Run tournament, which is considered the first of its kind at the local level in the UAE. 

Dr. Hoda Al Matrooshi added that the tournament comes within the framework of the joint efforts to spread and develop the sport of modern pentathlon, and to raise awareness among young people about this modern and fun game.

Al Matrooshi noted that the vision of the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club in supporting cultural and sporting activities is completely in line with the Emirates Modern Pentathlon Federation vision, whereas the federation strives to promote and develop this sport at the local and global levels. Al Matrooshi continued by saying that the aim of the tournament is to educate players and the public about the rules and conditions of the game and to encourage active participation. Al Matrooshi  stressed that the federation hopes that the tournament will be a starting point for organising a modern pentathlon league at the local and international levels in the future.

At the end of her statement, Al Matroushi concluded by saying that the federation looks forward to further cooperation with the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club and all the clubs and institutions that support modern pentathlon, to develop this sport and increase its popularity in the UAE.
