Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Children affiliated with the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators, in cooperation with the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), organised a training workshop entitled “Parliamentary Culture”, at Al Qarayen Centre.
This comes with the aim of enhancing the principle of cooperation and integration between the local community institutions in Sharjah, and in an effort to raise awareness of parliamentary culture among children.
The workshop targets members of the Sharjah Children's Shura Council, in its seventeenth session, held under the slogan "A quarter of a century of excellence in parliamentary work."
The workshop, presented by His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of APC, discussed many topics, the most prominent of which was the concept of parliamentary culture.
Children were introduced to parliamentary concepts and experiences that suit their age groups, the difference between junior councils and adult councils, introducing them to the role of the parliamentary member in conveying topics and issues pertaining to children, the role of the Speaker of Parliament, who is the one who facilitates sessions, reasons that lead to the occurrence of the problem or observation, and the formulation of recommendations to solve the problems.
During the workshop, the children interacted with His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout by presenting their personal experiences in the school environment and centres, discussing a set of concepts about the child's rights, presenting a set of problems facing them at the school level, including the problem of traffic congestion in front of school and the dangers it causes, and they cited the previous experience of the Sharjah Children's Shura Council and the recommendation made regarding the importance of regulating traffic, which was applied to all schools.
It is worth noting that the workshop was held as part of a series of preparatory workshops organised by Sharjah Children throughout the year to prepare the members to participate in the main sessions and confirm their active presence. The workshop also provided an integrated training environment that includes many interactive activities and workshops that are presented by officials and concerned personalities in the various fields, with the aim of raising their research capabilities and developing their parliamentary skills, and enabling them to discuss their issues and make appropriate recommendations.
The Sharjah Children’s Shura Council is one of the Sharjah Children’s initiatives affiliated with the Rubu’ Qarn Foundation for Creating Future Leaders and Innovators.
This unique council was established based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in 1997, to create future leaders by educating and involving them in the legislative process, and establishing principles of behaviour based on respect for the opinions and freedoms of others, and Islamic principles and values.
