In the first episode, Ali Al-Abdan, Director of the Artistic Heritage Department at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, discusses how the old art of weaving, "safeefah," is traditionally associated with women in the Gulf states, but is in fact a craft that can be performed by men as well. He explains that they use palm fronds, called "khoos," that have been divided into sections, some of which are coloured.
He went on to say that "safeefah" is made by weaving together strips of wicker and tying them together with strong green wicker.
