Sharjah 24: The Abdul-Dhahir Library in Egypt is specialised in bookbinding, and it is partaking in the Sharjah Heritage Days activities to educate the public about this fascinating and intricate craft.
Husain Muhammad Abdul-Dhahir, the library's director, noted that "bookbinding is an integrated art that works with all sorts of paper, and the foundation of its work rests on conserving books for the longest feasible duration." This involves everything from cleaning and restoration to preserving the books so that they are accessible to anyone seeking information.
The library's pavilion has a collection of notable hand-bound volumes, such as artists' sketchbooks and leather renderings of Arabic calligraphy, as well as a variety of instruments used by bookbinders.
