Sharjah 24: According to Dr Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Director General of the UAE's Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the Emirate of Sharjah, like the rest of the UAE, prioritises wheat cultivation as part of its food security strategy.
Al-Tunaiji said that the wheat farm in Mleiha is an important part of food security and that His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah, pays close attention to it and keeps an eye on it.

In an interview with "Sharjah 24," Al-Tunaiji detailed how the farm was established on 1900 hectares at the behest of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and how the first phase involved the cultivation of 400 hectares, the second phase will involve the cultivation of 400 hectares the following season, and the third phase involves the cultivation of the entire area.

Thanks to God, Al-Tunaiji said, the project was able to overcome all hurdles, including a tight deadline, and the harvest season will begin on March 20th, with wheat distributed in Sharjah cooperative societies in May and June.

Al-Tunaiji assured the public that the department was dedicated to environmentally friendly farming practices and that none of the goods were genetically engineered or treated with toxic chemicals or pesticides.
