Sharjah DoC honoured at ‘Abdullah Al-Faisal Arabic Poetry Award’

Sharjah 24: The Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Governor of Makkah Region, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Arabic Poetry, Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, honoured Thursday evening the House of Poetry in Sharjah for the best project in the service of Arabic poetry, at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Award For Arabic Poetry.
Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah received the award in during a ceremony held at the Jeddah Book Fair Thursday evening in the presence of Mohammed Al-Buraiki, Director of the House of Poetry in Sharjah, and senior officials and media men from the countries of the Arab world.

In his remarks on the honouring, Al Owais said the message of the House of Poetry according to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, lies in the commitment to support the cultural and poetic march through paying attention to young creative energies, to achieve sustainable cultural development; and because poetry is the Diwan of the Arabs, poets play a pivotal and essential role, as the initiative and efforts of His Highness in establishing poetry houses in the Arab world constituted a milestone in the cultural movement, and the upholding of Arab cultural affairs; He added that Sharjah, in succession, deserved the title of Capital of Arab Culture in 1998, Capital of Islamic Culture in 2014, and World Book Capital in 2019.

It is noteworthy that the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Prize for Arabic Poetry is an international award, announced by Prince Khaled Al-Faisal in November 2018, under the supervision of the Academy of Arabic Poetry at Taif University in Saudi Arabia. It is awarded to Arab poets and literary institutions to stimulate and develop poetic creativity, and for outstanding initiatives.
