SCC discusses four Parliamentary questions at Thursday meeting

Sharjah 24: In its meeting on Thursday morning as part of its work for the fourth regular session of the tenth legislative term at its headquarters in Sharjah, headed by Ali Mehd Al Suwaidi, the Chairman, the Sharjah Consultative Council addressed four question directed to four departments.
The questions were directed to the Sharjah Housing Programme, Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the Sharjah Social Services Directorate, regarding their efforts in dealing with and tackling the repercussions of the damages brought about the latest floods in the Eastern Regions while the fourth question was addressed to the Sharjah Police concerning the delay in officers promotion. The heads of the four departments effectively responded to the questions and unveiled their plans each in its respective specialisation.

After approving the minutes of the fourth session, the Council directed the first question to Sharjah Housing Programme about what the Programme has done in the exceptional circumstances (floods), the level of its intervention to provide the necessary support to the owners of the damaged houses in Kalba, Khorfakkan and Dibba Al Hisn, and the efforts to contain the damages and losses incurred, and the programme’s plans to deal with these challenges in the event that they occur again.

Dr. Eng. Khalifa Musabah bin Ahmed Al Tunaiji, head of the Sharjah Housing Programme highlighted the role of the Programme in such exceptional circumstances and directed its intervention to providing the necessary support to the owners of damaged housing in the cities of Khorfakkan, Kalba and Dibba Al-Hisn through securing accommodation for the families whose homes have been exposed to damage, removing the damages and renovating the affected houses, conducting a survey of the damaged houses after the civil defence withdrew water; maintenance was carried out for the damaged housing.
 
He added that the programme was fully prepared to face such challenges and crises, and it called for work at an accelerated pace to provide relief to humanitarian cases and affected families quickly and to provide shelters in prior coordination and concerted efforts of all the participating and collaborating parties with the programme in this regard. The damaged houses were also visited, technical reports were prepared, the damage was inspected, and temporary housing solutions were found for the owners of the houses that were proven unfit for residing by providing annual rental assistance and raising the cases of the houses that are about to fall to competent authorities to consider permanent housing solutions.

The programme is currently studying the development of a new mechanism to provide maintenance for damaged houses that need urgent maintenance and rationing them by a decision of the Executive Council that allows the programme to exclude them from the currently approved requirements and speed up the procedures.

Addressing the Department of Agriculture and Livestock about the efforts undertaken by the Department to provide the necessary support to farm owners in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Sharjah due to the heavy rains and to contain the damage and losses incurred, Dr. Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, stated  that the department supervised, directed, provided technical support and raised awareness of farmers and livestock breeders, monitored the application of regulations in relation to the agricultural process, and cared for the development of livestock in the Emirate.

The third parliamentary question was asked to the Sharjah Social Services Department inquiring about the roles and tasks of the department regarding the damages that befell families in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Sharjah as a result of heavy and torrential rains, and aspects of the department’s intervention to provide the necessary support for the affected families.

Afaf Ibrahim Al Marri, Head of the Sharjah Social Services Department said that that the department provided accommodation and necessary aids to 1229 cases in cooperation with various competent agencies.

Regarding the evacuation procedures, Al Marri stated that the families were supported immediately and proactively, and the procedures were according to referred cases from the competent authorities.

The Council concluded its session with the fourth parliamentary question, which was directed to the Sharjah Police, inquiring about the procedures followed in resolving the problem of delay in the promotions of a number of officers.

In his response, Major General Saif Al-Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police highlighted and praised the permanent honors of the Ruler of Sharjah to the Sharjah Police, including raising the minimum pension, providing health insurance, creating job opportunities, and providing 2,000 new jobs.

He added that the Sharjah Police follows and applies the procedures and controls for promotion to achieve justice and equality between officers on the federal and local cadres.

At the end of the session, the Secretary-General of the Council, Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, announced that the next session, which is the sixth, will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2022, and will discuss the policy of the Department of Districts and Villages Affairs in the Emirate of Sharjah.
