Sharjah24 – AFP: Blackpool, a British coastal town famous for its spectacular autumn lights show, will keep the display running this year despite soaring inflation and energy prices.
The Blackpool Illuminations, which run for a little over six miles along the town’s promenade from the start of September to the end of the Christmas season, are enormously popular with tourists, attracting around 3.5 million visitors a year.
"It is about 1.7 million (pounds) to put the show on, including energy costs" says Ivan Taylor, the deputy leader of Blackpool Council, "but it is unthinkable for us not to have our autumn illuminations because in terms of our tourism sector, it is extremely important."
