Sultan bin Ahmed attends University of Exeter’s Alumni ceremony

Sharjah 24: Under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, attended Tuesday evening, the ceremony of the British University of Exeter’s Alumni Association in Sharjah, which was held by the university at Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for Gulf Studies.
At the outset of the meeting, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed welcomed the attendees who were keen to attend the Alumni Association ceremony from the GCC countries, praising their constant communication with the university, which reflects their affiliation with science and knowledge.

In his speech at the event, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah to the attendees, praising His Highness's unlimited interest in intellectual and cultural meetings, and communication among the academic institutions of the Emirate of Sharjah, which reflects and highlights aspects of fruitful and constructive cooperation in all scientific, educational and academic fields that the Emirate is keen on. 

Deputy Ruler of Sharjah concluded thanking the attendees, speakers and all alumni for their attendance and participation.

In his speech on the occasion, Gareth Stansfield, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of University of Exeter expressed his thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for the generous sponsorship of the Alumni Association ceremony, praising His Highness's great efforts in spreading science, sponsoring and establishing prestigious educational institutions, and supporting scholars in all countries of the world.

He also extended his thanks and appreciation on behalf of the audience to Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi for honouring the ceremony with his attendance.

Professor of Conservation Science at University of Exeter gave a presentation on the importance of preserving marine life and its sustainability, and also touched on the need for countries to adopt an environmental system that achieves safety for marine life, and the importance of oceans and seas to preserve the environment. He expressed his happiness to cooperate with universities in the Emirate of Sharjah to provide programmes that preserve marine life and create a suitable environment for all the diverse living creatures at the bottom of the oceans and seas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al Shammaa, Director of the University of Khorfakkan, expressed his happiness in cooperating with the University of Exeter, which is one of the oldest universities with continuous academic cooperation with the Emirate of Sharjah. He hoped that the joint cooperation between the University of Khorfakkan and the University of Exeter, would contribute to serving the field of marine studies and applied research.
Then, the attendees watched a visual presentation of the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies at the University of Exeter, which was established with the generous support of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. The presentation dealt with the scientific facilities, libraries and modern equipment in the institute that serve its different specialiations.

At the end of the ceremony, attendees were guests at a dinner banquette hosted by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah.

Attending the event along with Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, were  Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department; Ali Ibrahim Al Marri, Chairman of Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre; Dr. Muhadda Al Hashimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Private Education Authority; and a number of academics and officials.
