WHO probing Indian cough syrup after 66 children die in The Gambia

Sharjah24 – AFP: The World Health Organisation issues an alert over four cough and cold syrups made by Maiden Pharmaceuticals in India, warning they could be linked to the deaths of 66 children in The Gambia.
Commenting on this, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director general of WHO said, "WHO has today issued a medical product alert for four contaminated medicines identified in the Gambia that had been potentially linked with acute kidney injuries and 66 deaths among children."

The Director general of WHO added, "The four medicines are cough and cold syrups produced by Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited in India. WHO is conducting further investigation with the company and regulatory authorities in India."

He concluded, "WHO recommends all countries detect and remove this product from circulation to prevent further harm to patients."
