Sharjah Crown Prince inaugurates Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial 10

Sharjah24: Under the Patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated, Wednesday evening, the activities of the 10th edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, organised by Sharjah Department of Culture. Calligraphy Biennial will resume its activities until November 30. The Crown Prince, getting briefed on what the arts showcasing creative and innovative arts.
The Crown Prince toured the exhibitions and listened to details of various paintings, from Quranic verses to poems in different types of calligraphy, done by numerous artists from the UAE and other Arab and Islamic countries.
He visited the personal exhibition of Khaled Al Jallaf, Emirati artist, and was briefed on the displayed works presenting a variant style of the Kufic and Mualla calligraphy style, which showed how far the artist has reached and how much experience he acquired in the arts of Arabic calligraphy.
The Deputy Ruler stopped at the exhibition of honored artists in the current edition, where he began his tour with the exhibition of Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention. He listened to a full explanation about the valuable manuscripts included in the exhibition, which date back to the eighties of the last century, and their meanings, connotations, and contents, which creative artists completed from different countries of the world where he encountered 27 manuscripts written in various Arabic calligraphies, decorated and surrounded by gilded frames and gilded margins, some of which are preserved in their original old binding, and ancient authentic leathers.
Then he moved to the exhibitions of Hamdi Zayed from Egypt and Sadiq Al-Douri from Iraq.
He toured the two pavilions and was introduced to the displayed paintings, where artist Hamdi Zayed presented 13 outstanding calligraphic works that show his innovation, and Sadiq Al-Douri displayed 12 calligraphic works reflecting his skillful hands.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed honored several artists who gave a lot to the art of Arabic calligraphy: Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Hamdi Zayed, and the calligrapher Sadiq Al Douri. He also honored the winners of this year's edition.
The honoring ceremony began with a speech by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Department of Culture, Director of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, in which he referred to the great diversity of activities offered by the Forum.
Al Qaseer reviewed the numerous activities of the Biennial, referring to the unique exhibitions of 15 artists from the UAE showcasing artworks made out of quotes by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, and some pieces of poems dedicated to His Highness.
The Biennial’s activities take place in the Heart of Sharjah, Sharjah Art Museum, House of Wisdom, University of Sharjah, and other designations. It includes 200 events and activities and displays more than 700 artworks by 200 artists from different countries of the world.
The Crown Prince was accompanied during the tour by Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Ruler’s Office, Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Charitable International (SCI), Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, Abdullah Al Owais, Head of Department of Culture, and Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Protocol and Hospitality Department, Dr. Khaled Omar Al Midfa, President of Sharjah Media City (Shams), and Salem Yousef Al Qaseer, Chairman of Labour Standards Development Authority.
