Sharjah 24 – WAM: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), and Roy Leonardo Barreras, President of the Senate of Colombia, discussed ways of reinforcing the parliamentary cooperation between the UAE and Colombia.
During the meeting, attended by Salem Rashid Al Owais, UAE Ambassador to Colombia, the two sides highlighted their keenness to advance their relations, through exchanging high-level visits, discussing issues of mutual concern, signing agreements and establishing parliamentary friendship committees, to keep pace with the developing ties between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by an FNC delegation that included members of the Emirati-Latin American and North American Parliaments Friendship Committee.
Ghobash highlighted the deep-rooted UAE-Colombia relations, noting the countries' keenness to develop joint cooperation across all domains, especially political, parliamentary, economic, cultural, and educational, as well as investment in clean energy, agricultural sector, and food security, in light of the comprehensive economic partnership which will be signed between the two countries in the coming months.
For his part, Barreras welcomed the visit by Ghobash and his delegation, thanking them for accepting his invitation to visit Colombia, and praising the establishment of the Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
He then underscored the importance of the relations between the two friendly countries and their joint cooperation across various fields, especially parliamentarians, noting the role parliaments play in promoting civilized dialogue, tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
