FNC, Uruguay's Senate discuss enhancing parliamentary relations

FNC highlights UAE's consultative practices on ‘Democracy Day’

Sharjah24 - WAM: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC), and Pablo Lanz, Chairman of the International Relations Committee of the Senate of Eastern Uruguay, discussed enhancing parliamentary relations and stressed the importance of joint cooperation and coordination regarding international issues of common interest.
Saqr Ghobash is leading a parliamentary delegation on an official visit to Latin America from 12th to 22nd September, 2022. The 10-day tour includes Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Colombia and aims to promote strategic partnerships and keep pace with the growing relations between the UAE and these countries.

Ghobash praised the development of the special strategic partnership relations between the UAE and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay, and the keenness to elevate them to achieve the aspirations and ambitions of the leadership and peoples of the two countries based on friendship, mutual respect and common interests since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1980.

He said that the visit of the FNC delegation to Uruguay comes to bolster parliamentary cooperation and exchange visits and experiences in the interest of the two friendly countries and peoples considering the great developments and challenges the world is witnessing, and what this requires of unifying positions and directions on various issues of common interest.

He expressed the UAE government's aspiration and interest to enhance economic cooperation and develop trade and mutual investments by signing a free trade agreement with the Common Market of Latin American Countries (Mercosur).

Pablo Lanz stressed the Uruguayan Senate's keenness to consolidate parliamentary relations with the FNC to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, with the aim of strengthening coordination and consultation on various issues, as well as exchanging parliamentary visits and experiences for unifying efforts and supporting common international issues.
