In the first episodes of the "Your Summer in Sharjah" programme, which is broadcast on the "Sharjah 24" website and its social networking platforms, Amal Muhammad, a senior guide from Arabia's Wildlife Centre (AWC) affiliated with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, stated that Arabia's Wildlife Centre (AWC) was opened in 1999 with the grant of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
She told "Sharjah 24" that the centre is one of the most important research institutes in the Middle East, housing a collection of endangered species from all over the world as well as Arabian Peninsula wildlife.

According to Amal Mohammed, the centre specialises in accommodating animals in their natural habitats with guide panels describing their locations, with the purpose of introducing visitors to the Arabian Peninsula's species and emphasising the need to prevent their extinction.
