Sharjah 24: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, affirmed that he attaches all the attention to the issue of providing jobs to citizens, and that His Highness is keen to follow up this file himself despite His Highness's many preoccupations with the huge and multiple projects that the emirate is witnessing.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah said that securing jobs has become one of the main tasks of His Highness, pointing to the importance of the job in family’s formation and stability, reassuring citizens that work on the employment file is going on as planned.

This came during a telephone intervention His Highness made via the 'Direct Line' programme broadcast on Sharjah Radio and Television and hosted by Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Director General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, Wednesday.

Replacement of 874 jobs, recruitment of 450
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimirevealed that since the beginning of this year, the replacement of 3,000 jobs in the Sharjah Police, has been launched, and that, so far, 874 citizens have taken these jobs, and by the end of 2022, the number will have reached 1,500.

His Highness called on officials in the Sharjah Police not to rush to implement the job replacement programme, and to focus more on training and qualifying new employees so that they understand their jobs and tasks well. His Highness also directed that terminated employees be given the chance and time to manage their matters related to their families, saying:  “It is not permissible to lay off employees like this with the stroke of a pen”.

His Highness explained that other government departments in Sharjah have requested the employment of 1,000 citizens, and that 450 have been employed to date, and the number will be completed soon.

78 jobs for critical cases and 217 to replace retirees

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah called for simplifying life for job seekers from the cities of the Eastern Region by not burdening them the pain of travelling to their jobs in places far from their residence, urging the need to establish departments and agencies close to their homes and areas of residence. His Highness confirmed that work is underway on this matter, which is expected to be completed within the next six months.

His Highness added, during this period, several unexpected and uncalculated issues happened  - the provision of government vacancies instead of those who retired or resigned, pointing to the employment of 217 citizens to replace retirees and those who resigned, which are added to the thousand vacancies available in government departments.

His Highness pointed out that 78 jobs have been allocated to citizens in critical situations, who are in dire need of jobs, and they take care of children and elderly and sick fathers and mothers.

600 jobs in modern projects until the end of 2022

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi announced that work is now underway on modern projects that provide jobs for citizens, indicating that, during the next six months, projects will be completed and others opened in the city of Kalba, pointing out that this year is the “Year of Kalba.” His Highness revealed that at the end of this year, 600 jobs will be provided in modern projects in the emirate, in addition to the recently opened University of Khorfakkan, which in turn, will provide several jobs for citizens.

Employing 91 citizens in the private sector

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah explained that the private sector in the emirate also provides jobs for citizens, revealing that, so far, 91 citizens have been employed in this sector, indicating that Emiratisation is on the go. His Highness added that employment is one of the most important programmes in my hand and under my supervision, pointing out that all Sharjah government’s institutions and departments are working on this file and no one falls short.

Recruitment is based on qualifications

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah stressed that recruitment is not random, and that employees cannot be imposed on departments and obligate these departments to specific people, leaving the matter of selecting employees for the departments that are keen to employ the qualified and skillful persons that suit them. In this context, His Highness gave an example, that if the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority requested the employment of 20 citizens, we would send them a group from which they select who suits the position offered- the SBA may take 5 of the 20. Then we repeat the process times and times until the Authority obtains the 20 people it seeks.

His Highness ruled out the existence of a "goal" or “mediation" in the issue of employment, except for the 78 critical and special cases, for His Highness is aware of the difficult living matters of these people through the data provided by the Sharjah Social Services Departments and Sharjah Statistics and Community Development.

His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah revealed that he had ordered a study on job applications in the Central Region, saying that the number that had been registered was not enough, so he inquired about the issue, and found some of the people did not want to register themselves and did not want to be hired out of self restraint, so His Highness called for registering them again, pointing out that this study is only for the elderly.
