Sharjah 24 – WAM: Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council, affirmed that heritage is an essential part of the Emirati national identity and one of the community's valuable strengths.
''Historical sites provide channels of communications between present and future generations regarding history and culture as well as tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the nation,'' said Sheikha Ammar Al Nuaimi after opening the Ajman Museum in its new identity with the latest technologies.
Sheikh Ammar was briefed by the museum curators about the latest audio-visual display techniques introduced in the museum (located at the heart of Heritage District) which was inaugurated by the late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1991.
The Museum is part of a massive project to enrich the heritage content in the emirates which includes three main museums : Ajman Museum, Masfout Museum and Manama Museum and other under-planning museums. As perfect example of traditional Emirati architecture, the 18th-century fort served as the ruler’s residence until 1970, before it was converted into a museum a decade later.
The museum features 25 sections including the room in which His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, spent his childhood and youth, traditional souq, traditional and herbal medicine, old kitchen, living room and a section dedicated to fishing, pearl diving and trade that once dominated the region and agriculture.
The museum displays a fascinating collection of artefacts, traditional crafts and photos for pre-oil life. The exhibits offer a compelling glimpse of Ajman’s past, from centuries-old manuscripts and weaponry to models of wooden dhows and ingenious irrigation systems and latest archeological discoveries.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Tourism Development Department (ATDD), who attended the opening ceremony along with senior local officials, said as one of the most visited historical attractions in the emirate, Ajman Museum is of great historical value to the ruling family because His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi spent most times of his childhood and youth within its walls.
The new identity of the museum seeks to heighten awareness about the importance of safeguarding the emirate's cultural heritage and delivering the museum's message.
The Ajman Tourism Development Department has launched an app for the museum with an interactive map and a tour guide.
