Sharjah 24: The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) announced its full readiness and preparedness to receive the month of Ramadan, stressing that the department is working according to its plans to secure the emirate's markets and ensure the safety of all economic practices through its control campaigns.
SEDD’s campaigns, which come within the framework of SEDD’s keenness to protect consumers in line with the department’s strategic objectives to contribute to achieving and leading comprehensive economic development in the emirate, include visits to food service and retail facilities, men’s and women’s salons, gold markets, in addition to all other economic establishments whose demand increases in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, with the aim of ensuring the commitment of facilities and addressing violators during the holy month.

Salem Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department at the SEDD, confirmed that the department has intensified its field visits and inspection tours to the emirate’s markets to familiarise merchants and sellers with the need to develop lists clarifying product prices and directing them to the importance of complying with laws and ensuring the consumer’s knowledge of the value of goods, combating all manifestations of commercial fraud and limiting negative practices that some traders may resort to, as well as ensuring the accuracy of the scales used in them and ensuring their conformity with specifications and standards approved in the country.

He pointed out that the department works regularly, through a comprehensive field plan, to carry out monitoring tours that are carried out throughout the year by the specialised work team of commercial officers in the Department of Commercial Control and Protection, as these tours are intensified during the days preceding important seasons such as the blessed month of Ramadan and the festive season.

Al Suwaidi noted the vital role of consumers in controlling illegal commercial practices and helping to control any cases of commercial fraud or manipulation, by reporting these cases by calling 80080000 or by visiting www.sedd.ae.
