The goal of the celebration, which is being held for the sixth year in a row, is consistent with the aspirations of the SMA to familiarise the community with Sharjah cultural and civilisation legacies, and its belief that the celebration of the World Heritage Day must translate the true status of peoples’ heritage, and support efforts to preserve peoples’ heritage by raising the awareness of individuals and enhancing their knowledge.
The celebration includes a family programme and a panel discussion entitled “Sharjah’s Inexhaustible Heritage” at the Sharjah Fort on the 27th of March from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm, highlighting the role of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, in preserving Sharjah heritage.
It is noteworthy that many countries of the world celebrate World Heritage Day on April 18 in accordance with the decision of ICOMOS, and under the auspices of UNESCO and the World Heritage Convention for the International Day for the Protection of Human Heritage, which was approved by the General Conference of the UNESCO in Paris in 1972 to protect the human heritage and the efforts of the authorities and organisations working to protect heritage, and raise awareness among communities of the value and the importance of preserving heritage.
