Sharjah24: Al Hamriyah region has provided a warm welcome to the Sharjah Heritage Days in its 19th session, as it played host to The Heritage Village.

From a handicrafts corner, which showcased how skilled workers are converting simple tools from the Emirati environment into beautiful creations such as antiques to busy exhibition grounds and educational workshops, The Heritage Village has been a busy hive of activity.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, with His Excellency Humaid Saif bin Samha Al Shamsi and Mubarak Rashid Al Shamsi, toured all of its many areas and enjoyed an artistic show performed by one of the Emirati folk teams. They also watched educational workshops, which have been created with partner organisations, and aim to instil heritage into the hearts of younger generations.

Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam said: “The Sharjah Heritage Days were founded in 2003, as part of the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The Heritage Days are designed to recognise how important it is to remember our heritage when setting national and international goals. The Days provide a crucial opportunity for the past and future to meet in the present day. It allows us to see how our ancestors lived; the difficulties they faced and how they overcame adversity to progress while still protecting their noble heritage and customs.”

He added: "The Sharjah Heritage Days activities have become an important event in the Emirati cultural calendar. As well as introducing younger generations to our history - including ancient customs and traditions - the Days offer the chance to reflect on the identity of the people of the United Arab Emirates.”
