Sharjah 24: Sheikh Salem bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Ruler's Office, attended the launch of the first phase of the seventh edition of the Sharjah International Cycling Tour, which is organized under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The motto (50 years in love of Sultan) has been selected for the seventh edition to commemorate the golden jubilee of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah assuming the leadership of the Emirate of Sharjah.
Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council, Osama Al Shafar, President of the UAE Cycling Federation, as well as officials from the International, Arab, and Asian Cycling Federations, and a number of sports officials, attended the tour's launch.
The event is 438.8 kilometres long in four stages and will go until February 1st, with 144 cyclists representing 24 leagues and teams from 16 nations taking part.
The Sharjah International Cycling Tour, now in its eighth year, has leagues from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Oman, Syria, Morocco, and Algeria, as well as teams from Bahrain, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Slovakia, Turkey, Taiwan, and Indonesia.
The Sharjah International Tour's numerous courses and stages will be disseminated to various locations within the Emirate of Sharjah in the following days. The tour will culminate with the fifth stage, which will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1 and will cover a distance of 103 kilometres, commencing at Al Rafisah Dam in Khor Fakkan and concluding at Sharjah National Park.
The local youth cycling competition, which will be divided into four stages, will accompany the International Cycling Tour.
