Sharjah24: The Breastfeeding Friends Association (BFA) of the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah celebrated the International Day of the Premature Baby (IDPB), which falls on November 17 every year, by holding an awareness event under the slogan "No to Separation". “Let us work together to keep parents and babies born too soon together.” It includes a number of awareness and educational initiatives, with the aim of raising awareness about premature birth, the causes that lead to the birth of premature babies, and the role of the family in reducing complications associated with the premature baby.
The initiatives of the event include holding a dialogue session in Arabic and English over two days, 17/18 November, on how to deal with a premature baby, providing psychological support to the mother during her journey by caring for her child in intensive care, broadcasting a video directed by the association for mother support, and presenting experiences and success stories from mothers of premature babies, In addition, a radio telephone interview will be listened to, by a neonatologist, also organizing competitions and incentive prizes to support mothers of premature babies.
Engineer Khawla Al-Noman, President of the Friends of Breastfeeding Association, said that the association is keen to participate in the International Day of Premature Babies, with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for premature babies as the best way to save the lives of newborns and ensure their enjoyment of good health, this participation comes embodying the visions and directives of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, In the need to work on organizing awareness and educational events and campaigns with the aim of encouraging and educating mothers about the importance of breastfeeding and increasing its rates, to preserve the health of the mother and child, and to reach a healthy society, the importance of this event, which contributes greatly to educating mothers and encouraging them to take care of their children, and to make them aware of the importance of breastfeeding is for children in general and premature babies in particular, because it contains antibiotics that protect them from many diseases and infections.
Al-Noman added that supporting the mother and the premature baby is one of priorities of the association, which is constantly keen on organizing events and awareness programs aimed at enhancing community awareness of ways to care for the premature baby, in addition to launching several initiatives to enhance communication with mothers, most notably the establishment of a WhatsApp group to provide Advice and information on ways to care of the premature baby, as well as providing a direct contact service for mothers to provide health advice by breastfeeding consultants.
