SEF discusses start-ups growth over the next 50 years

Sharjah 24: The fifth edition of the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF), which kicks off on November 22nd, under the slogan “The Stars Forum”, will discuss the factors affecting the growth of the startup sector over the next 50 years, with the participation of about 50 influential speakers and the young cultural, sports and social figures, local and international experts, in the presence of 4000 entrepreneurs and startup founders in different sectors.
Organised by the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Centre “Sheraa”, the two –day SEF will host Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, within a session entitled “The UAE in 50 Years: The Rise of a Nation” and moderated by Magnus Olsson, co-founder of Careem. The session will discuss the importance and growing role of the startup sector in promoting the economic growth of the UAE and the necessity of building the next generation of entrepreneurs by upgrading the existing educational system to keep pace with the rapid changes taking place in the world.

For the first time since SEF started five years ago, the festival will be open to all visitors in the UAE to benefit from experts from different backgrounds and cultures.

The first day will include a panel discussion entitled “Who is the Change Maker” to tackle the fears, social pressures and daily challenges faced by Arab entrepreneurs in managing their projects, in addition to discussing a number of important issues related to the entrepreneurs community in the region, with the participation of Emirati artist Rashid Al Nuaimi and Manar Al Hanai, co-founder of the Emirati magazine “Sikka” specialised in arts and culture.

The two Egyptian adventurers and entrepreneurs Omar Nour and Omar Samra will give an inspiring speech entitled “Towards the Stars”, where they will share with the audience their experiences overcoming obstacles and facing challenges during a perilous journey of 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean. The session will also provide lessons for young people in the entrepreneurship sector.

Under the title “Mind Over Matter: A New Look at the Entrepreneur,” a panel discussion will address talking increasingly about mental health. The session will be attended by Craig MacDonald, co-founder of YallaParking, and Olympic weightlifter Amna Al Haddad. The participants will review their visions and ideas about the importance of giving precedence to logic and reason in various aspects of life to overcome challenges and stay away from emotions that may affect their critical decisions.

The CEO and co-founder of the world famous Calm app, Michael Acton-Smith, will present a session entitled “Keep Calm and Follow Your Way: How to Turn Your Dream into Reality”, during which he will talk about the importance of setting and striving to achieve a goal by setting appropriate proactive plans and strategies.

Basel Al Nahlawi, General Manager of Mobility at Careem, Christian Eid, Founding CEO of Duck Life, and Asma Al Yamani, Head of Product Division at Mamo Bay, will participate in a panel discussion entitled “Today’s Employees.. Tomorrow’s Leaders: Lessons from the Careem Club” to discuss what entrepreneurs can do to put their companies on the path to success through innovation and investment in human resources.

The festival sheds light on the concept of the “virtual universe”, during a panel discussion entitled “Shocking Truth: Beyond Reality in the Virtual Universe” discussing how entrepreneurs can benefit from virtual reality that allows them to reach customers, suppliers and partners through one easy and accessible platform.
