The forum was attended by Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the SCCI, Doris Põld, CEO of the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL), Iga Ermeja, CEO of the IT group in Latvia, Torbjörn Johnson, CEO of Propell, and several European companies’ CEOs.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Chamber and the Estonian ITL, aimed at facilitating economic cooperation among business communities, by exchanging digital transformation opportunities as well as encouraging scientific research in the field of technology.
Abdullah Sultan Al Owais welcomed the European delegation, expressing his high hopes that the forum would constitute a new and promising beginning in the process of building a distinctive and sustainable economic partnership between the two sides that would contribute to expanding the horizons of trade exchange.
He pointed out that the forum translates the wise vision of the UAE leadership and its keenness to enhance the local investment environment, for it provides an opportunity to introduce European businessmen and businesswomen to the promising investment opportunities that Sharjah abounds in, especially in light of the great facilities offered by various government agencies to foreign investors.
Doris Põld, expressed her admiration for the development and urban renaissance of Sharjah, and spoke about Sharjah's position as a critical destination in the agenda of businessmen, businesswomen, and European tourist delegations visiting the UAE, and thanked the efforts of the Sharjah Chamber for organizing the forum with the delegation of the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications and representatives of companies From Latvia and Sweden, which were exceptional and fruitful meetings that put Sharjah in a prominent position in the development of relations between the European Union countries and the UAE.
Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director General of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), praised the importance of holding and organising business fora between Sharjah and different countries of the world, which will contribute to increasing the volume of investments.
Al Awadi added that the business forum will contribute to strengthening cooperation in the digital field, whereas Estonia is one of the developed countries in the field of information technology in Europe, he also referred to the recent agreement between the UAE and Latvia on an expanded programme for economic cooperation that includes 11 vital sectors, including tourism, aviation, trade, investment, innovation and small projects, and renewable energy, stressing that these factors constitute a strong basis for developing and exploring new channels for future economic cooperation.
