Sharjah 24: A new event organised by Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) will introduce the public to the UAE’s rich heritage and meanings of different symbols.
Titled ‘Significance of Heritage Symbols’, the event will be held at Bait Al Naboodah in the heart of Sharjah daily from April 8 to through 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. The event aims to increase awareness about the country’s heritage and inspire the public to experience and value it.
Held in junction with the World Heritage Day, the event offers a peek into the traditions, customs and different features of the lives of Emiratis in the olden days.
Displayed items at the event include ‘Dalla’, the traditional Arab coffee pot which is a symbol of UAE’s hospitality, and the palm tree, a symbol of Emirati’s generosity and patience and a source for several traditional crafts.
The event also hosts a small exhibition displaying some of the works by artist Azza Al Qubaisi, which were inspired and created using parts of palm trees.
The display is accompanied with workshops demonstrating methods of preparing the traditional Emirati coffee, and another highlighting the uses of the palm tree and its parts.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to look at and be introduced to different ship models from the Sharjah Maritime Museum.
Among numerous other items, the Emirati dagger which is considered a symbol of power, will also be on display alongside the Burqa, a traditional accessory worn by married women to distinguish them from unmarried ones.
Visitors, including families, tourists, artists, photographers, those interested in heritage, falconers and students, can enjoy learning about the Emirati heritage and symbols, and they can also take memorable photos in the digital photography corner during the event days from 4:00 to 7 pm: 00 p.m.
