‘Whitaker’ wins the Longines Grand Prix at ‘Sharjah Championship’

Sharjah 24: The world famous rider “Michael Whitaker” was awarded with the Longines Grand Prix after presenting an extraordinary and exciting performance during the Grand final competition which took place on Saturday evening and with it we ended the 20th Sharjah International Show Jumping Championship, which had started on Wednesday, January 29 and consisted of 20 rounds - 9 of the 3-star category.
The Closing ceremony was in the presence of Sheikh Abdullah bin Majid Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, Dr. Ghanem Al-Hajri, Secretary General of the Equestrian Federation, Issa Hilal Al-Hazami, Secretary General of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), Patrick Aoun, Regional Brand manager of Longines - the sponsor of the Championship’s Grand Prix - and Sultan Mohammed Al Yahyaee, General Manager of Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club, Championship Manager. The closing competition was of the two rounds in the outer field, with the path arranged with barriers at (150 cm) height, and 40 riders were able to participate in two qualifying competitions. 9 riders could make it to the second round, 7 without faults and 2 with one fault for exceeding the expected time limit; Moreover, 3 riders could complete the second round with zero faults such as the British rider “Michael Whitaker” and the horse "Flinstering" who ended the second round in a quick time of (38.52) seconds, whereas the second place prize went for the German rider “Holger Wulschner” and the horse "Casirus" with a time of (40.17) seconds, and the third place prize was for the Egyptian rider “Mohd Osama El-Borai” and the horse "Quintero" who completed the second round in a time of (42.28) seconds. Talking about the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) award, the Grand Prix competition was held in the outer field and was of the one round with differentiation on barriers reaching (145 cm) height. 53 male and female riders had participated, 13 with clear performances and then 10 only were able to compete again with no faults. The best timing scored was (38.56) seconds, recorded by the Irish rider “Jack Ryan” and the horse "Diesel" who won the first-place award. Whereas, the second place went for the German rider “David Will” and the horse “Caramba 92” with (40.19) seconds, and then the third place award was for the Egyptian rider “Mouda Zeyada” and the horse "Morocco" who had competed strongly for the second place after reaching (40.44) seconds. Sponsored by Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, the competitions had kicked off on the last day and were of the two phases at barriers of height (130) cm. 76 male and female riders had competed, and only 16 could make it without faults. Thus, the first place prize went for our Emirati young rider “Abdulla Ahmed Ameen” and the horse " Electron " at a time of (24.91) seconds in the second round, and the prize for second place went for the Polish rider “Amelia Mosicka” and the horse" Contendrix " who completed the round in a time of (25.57) seconds, and the third place award for the Saudi rider “Abdullah Al-Ghamdi” and the horse “Quidina” at a time of (25.94) ) seconds. Moreover, the final round for the young riders CSIOY was sponsored by Al Shira’aa and was of one round with barriers at (130) cm height. 19 riders had participated and the main round was clearly completed by our rider “Humaid Abdulla Al Muhairi” and the horse “Gaudi Equigenne” at a time of (75.14) seconds, and then the second place went for the Saudi rider “Mohamed Al-Malki” and the horse "Aukland" at a time of (70.29) seconds with 8 penalty points, and lastly the prize for the third place was for the Palestinian rider “Ayman Alonays” and the horse "Nelson" at a time of (71.29) seconds with 8 penalty points as well. In the single final competition for the Junior riders CSIOJ sponsored by Al Shira’aa, the round was of one tour with differentiation, at barriers of (120) cm, and with the participation of 40 riders. 9 of them competed in the differentiation round, and by time difference, the winner was the Palestinian rider “Omar Ayman” and the horse "Paprica", at a time (36.73) seconds. Moreover, the prize for second place went to “Ali Ahmed Al Junaibi” and the horse "Cusheet" at a time (37.10) seconds, whereas “Mayed Ahmad Ahli” and the horse "Brazoria De Semilly" had won the third place with a differentiation time at (37.62) seconds. The Final Children Riders championship CSIOCH was held with specifications of one round, and differentiation at barriers of (110) cm. 16 riders had participated, 7 of them succeeded, and the differentiation round was completed by 4 riders without faults. The first place award went for the Jordanian rider “Ali Abu Hamour” and the horse "Cointreau" at a time of (34.00) seconds, then the second place for the Egyptian rider “Ismail Osama Al-Borai” and the horse "VIP Delle Roane" at a time of (35.84) seconds, whereas the third place was for “Moustafa EL Zayat” and the horse "Jumainah", who completed the differentiation with (37.15) seconds.
