Sharjah24: The Emirates Park Zoo took part in a campaign to clean the Bahia Open Beach, in cooperation with the municipality of Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi's Waste Management Centre “Recycling”.
More than 30 volunteers from the park joined the campaign under the supervision of Dr. Waleed Shaban, the park’s director.
The participants removed around 65 kilograms of garbage as part of the Park’s efforts to prevent dumping garbage in seas and oceans, combat pollution that destroys marine life, and to spread and promote environmental awareness and responsibility among members of society.
Dr. Waleed Shaban, the park’s director, said the part joined the campaign as its societal responsibility towards the state, and its belief in the importance of maintaining a natural environment free of pollution.
He said the park, through its participation, aims to promote environmental hygiene behaviour among community groups. He said beach garbage is pulled into the sea through tides, threatening the marine life in the area.
He said the environment is a common human heritage that should be preserved and taken care of, to serve the Emirati community, and to promote a culture of volunteering and awareness to protect the environment from wrongful behavior.
