Sharjah 24: Sharjah Police General Command, represented by the Traffic and Patrols Department, concluded its online traffic awareness campaign.
The campaign was held from the first of February until the first quarter of the current month of March.
The campaign aimed to spread traffic awareness among drivers, to reduce the effects of traffic accidents, with a focus on the drivers’ commitment to ensure the vehicle is moving in the right lane, and not to swerve suddenly while driving.
Captain Saud Al Shaiba, Director of the Traffic Awareness and Information Branch at Sharjah Police, praised the positive results of the campaign, as it contributed to reducing the occurrence of accidents due to drivers not adhering to their lane while driving.
Captain Al Shaiba indicated that the campaign shows great outcomes compared to the same period last year, which witnessed in all 64 traffic accidents occurred with several injuries, ranging from medium to severe.
Captain Al Shaiba highlighted that the launch of this campaign came because of the high accident rates, according to previous traffic statistics, showing that failure to adhere to the lane by some vehicle drivers, comes at the forefront of the reasons leading to the occurrence of most of accidents.
Captain Al Shaiba continued that this caused an increase in the number of deaths in the past year, maintaining that based on the keenness of the Sharjah Police General Command in preserving the safety of drivers and road users from traffic accidents, this campaign was launched in line with its objectives that embody the Ministry of Interior's strategy to make roads safer.
The Director of the Awareness and Traffic Information Branch at Sharjah Police added that the campaign came to spread awareness among drivers of vehicles through the videos and messages that have been posted on the electronic accounts in various social media sites. In addition to, advertisements on the front of the commercial centres spread in the Emirate in several languages, including (Arabic, English, and Urdu). The campaign reminds drivers of the importance and necessity of adhering to the correct lane, as well as many directions and traffic instructions that ensure their safety and the safety of others on the road.
