Sharjah 24: Sharjah Charity International (SCI) has announced that its “Little Hearts” campaign, launched in 2009 to provide treatment for children with heart conditions, had performed 1,425 catheterisation and open-heart procedures on children across several countries covered by the charity’s programmes by the beginning of 2026.

The campaign has been carried out in cooperation with specialised medical teams and volunteers, led by Dr Ahmed Al Kamali, consultant paediatric cardiologist at Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCI, said the “Little Hearts” campaign provides a lifeline for children suffering from heart conditions that require specialised medical intervention, while their families may struggle to afford treatment.

He said the charity has worked to provide medical care to children in their home countries by organising the campaigns continuously throughout the year in numerous countries worldwide, rather than placing the burden of travel and overseas treatment costs on families.

Sheikh Saqr said reaching these cases begins by identifying children who require medical intervention, assessing their conditions and preparing them for surgery, followed by carrying out the necessary procedures and providing follow-up care within the resources available for each campaign.

This approach has allowed the initiative to continue expanding year after year, reaching increasing numbers of children in different countries. The campaign's programmes cover multiple countries within the charity's international aid network, in coordination with relevant authorities, as well as its offices and delegations in countries hosting the campaigns.

Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi praised the efforts of the volunteer medical team and everyone who contributed to implementing the campaigns, as well as the support provided by donors to the initiative.
