The programme features three main themes discussing various approaches to "Stories of Friends" and related topics within Arab, global, and human heritage.
Dr Bounama stated that the scientific programme of the Sharjah International Storyteller Forum will see the launch of several accompanying publications celebrating stories of friendship and the concept of friendship in Arab, human, and global heritage. These activities will unfold across 15 sessions featuring the participation of more than 15 researchers, experts, and media professionals from around the world.
Speaking to "Sharjah 24," Bounama added that the scientific programme’s themes would offer a rich intellectual experience throughout the Sharjah International Narrator Forum. The programme is divided into three main pillars: the first explores friendship within the human popular imagination by examining epics, myths, and ancient sagas that embody the essence of friendship. The second focuses on friendship in Arab heritage—a fascinating topic that delves into Arab cultural legacy and long-held perceptions regarding the concept, meaning, levels, secrets, stories, and nuances of friendship. This includes the works of figures such as Ibn al-Muqaffa (in Al-Adab al-Kabir and Al-Adab al-Saghir) and Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi (in Al-Sadaqa wa al-Sadiq), alongside other luminaries who documented the nature of friendship in Arab tradition.
The scientific programme also addresses friendship within Emirati heritage by highlighting its significance in oral traditions—such as proverbs, tales, ideals, and words of wisdom—as well as in Emirati folktales. This is a diverse and enriching theme, as it explores how friendship manifests in the Emirati popular imagination through symbolism, storytelling, and cultural representation.
