Al Musallam stressed that heritage records go beyond the mere documentation of cultural elements since they can be used as a means of reviving and promoting them by means of cultural programmes, events, publications, recordings, and exhibitions. He underlined the need to make sure that these elements stay relevant and accessible to younger generations. He also pointed out the importance of storytellers as keepers of collective memory and as the main source of inherited knowledge and oral traditions, and called for greater recognition of their role in preserving cultural identity.
The text also touched on the documentation of traditional foods, heritage sites, and majlis culture, pointing out that by recording these things the relevant values and social practices associated with them can be preserved in the face of modern societal changes.
Al Musallam also looked at various successful international examples of heritage preservation, such as those from Italy and Morocco, and announced his new book, My Great Friend, which will be launched at the Sharjah International Narrator Forum. The session ended with the Ministry of Culture recognizing Al Musallam for his efforts in raising awareness of the importance of national heritage records in preserving identity and in ensuring the sustainability of cultural heritage.
