Sharjah 24: The UAE Shooting Federation has met with the specialist overseeing shooting development at Sharjah Women Sports clubs, along with the technical team at Sharjah Women Sports Club, as part of its ongoing monitoring of national team players ahead of upcoming competitions. The meeting reviewed current preparation programmes, with particular focus on the build-up to the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Bound for international competition

The meeting reflects the Federation's commitment to tracking players shortlisted for external competitions directly, gaining insight into the technical programmes designed for them. This helps build an accurate picture of readiness levels and needs for the coming phase, and identifies areas of support that could strengthen the preparation process in coordination with the club, technical staff, and specialist expertise.

This oversight carries added weight given that six players from Sharjah Women Sports Club feature in the national team heading to the Asian Games, allowing the Federation to track their readiness according to their differing stages of development and technical and competitive needs.

The group includes Yasmine Tahlak, Ghaya Shaheel, Mahra Al Suwaidi, Reem Al Ketbi, Mona Al Hosani, and Fatima Al Suwaidi — a mix of experienced hands and promising talents continuing to build their competitive path.

Technical progress reviewed

The meeting examined the technical progress made with the club's players over the recent period, from establishing shooting fundamentals and gradually developing skills, through to the current phase, which demands sharper focus on competitive readiness and the ability to translate technical development into consistent performance in championships.

The specialist praised the progress the players have made, particularly in pistol events, compared with her previous visit in January 2026, noting that the first phase of work focused on building technical foundations and broadening the practice base — providing a firmer footing for moving into higher levels of preparation and competition.

The meeting also discussed the importance of giving players regular opportunities for competitive exposure, given that developing a shooter isn't achieved through technical training alone; it requires repeated competitions and tests that help measure progress, build experience in handling competitive pressure, and identify areas needing further work.

Asian games participation

Participation in the Asian Games formed a central theme of the meeting, with the final phase of preparation for the national team players reviewed, alongside discussion of the importance of using the period before the Games to raise technical and mental readiness.

Discussions also stressed the importance of treating the participation as a significant competitive milestone in the players' development path — one where the benefit isn't confined to results, but extends to evaluating performance against advanced Asian standards and drawing on the indicators that emerge to shape the next phases of preparation.

Measuring preparation programmes

Dr Mohammed Amer, Technical Director of the UAE Shooting Federation, said participation in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 represents an important technical milestone for measuring the impact of the preparation programmes the players have worked on over the recent period, and for gauging their readiness in practice under high-level competitive conditions.

"From a technical standpoint, what matters to us at this stage is seeing how the players translate what they've worked on in training into actual performance under competitive pressure," Amer said. "We're not just looking at the final standings, but at a set of indicators such as consistency of performance, improvement in scores, and the ability to manage competition and maintain their level from start to finish."

He added that the national team includes six players from Sharjah Womeى Sports Club, each at a different technical and competitive stage, meaning the goals set for this participation vary from one player to another. Some need to broaden their experience against an advanced Asian standard, while others are aiming to consolidate their level and compete for better results. "After the Games, we'll assess each player's performance according to her stage and technical goals, and build the next steps in preparation programmes and future participations on those indicators," he said.

Coordinated support

The discussions underlined the importance of continued coordination between the UAE Shooting Federation, Sharjah Women Sports Club, and specialist technical expertise, ensuring players' needs are tracked continuously and that preparation programmes are linked to upcoming competitions, each player's level, and her technical stage.

This approach reflects the Federation's role in following the players' path well beyond the tournament itself — reviewing preparation stages, discussing technical and competitive needs, and working with relevant parties to provide an environment that helps players continue developing.

With Aichi-Nagoya 2026 approaching, the coming phase is geared towards converting what has been achieved during training and preparation into competitive readiness on the ground — a milestone that places on the players the responsibility of representing the UAE, while giving the technical staff and the Federation valuable indicators to keep building on their path in future competitions.
