Sharjah 24 - Water treatment systems in Michigan have become the target of a cyberattack mirroring recent security breaches identified in Minnesota, according to local authorities. Officials have confirmed that despite the intrusions, the impacted systems continue to function normally and present no hazards to public safety.

FBI and CISA warn of ongoing threats

The FBI reported that water and wastewater utilities across seven US states have experienced cyber incidents since July 27, with specific attacks causing disruptions to operations. According to reports, hackers managed to infiltrate internet-connected systems remotely before modifying IP addresses and account passwords.

Meanwhile, the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a warning that digital threats directed at critical infrastructure—spanning water utilities, the energy sector, and government networks—are continuing to escalate.
