Sharjah 24 – AFP: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi called for de-escalation in the Middle East during a phone call with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Thursday, warning of the risks posed by rising regional tensions. He also affirmed that investigations would continue into the fire that broke out aboard two ships at the Port of Damietta.

Warning over regional escalation

President El-Sisi urged efforts to reduce tensions across the Middle East during his conversation with the Spanish prime minister.

The Egyptian government had earlier announced that the fire on two ships at the Mediterranean Port of Damietta on Wednesday was caused by a drone attack.

Investigation into Damietta Port incident

According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi stressed the dangers of the escalating regional situation and called on Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the wider international community to work together to contain the crisis.

He also confirmed that investigations would continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the Damietta port incident.
