The meeting brought together senior officials from the health, economy, agriculture and municipal sectors, where Sheikh Hamdan praised EAD’s strategic initiatives aimed at advancing environmental excellence, public health and sustainable development in line with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Strong environmental performance and biodiversity progress
The board reviewed strong key performance indicators, including a 98% air quality compliance rate, 100% compliance in marine water quality and sustainable fishing indices, and an 85.5% marine water eutrophication performance level. Significant biodiversity achievements were also highlighted, including aerial seed dispersal programmes exceeding 10 million seeds, more than 50,000 kilometres of surveys conducted by the Jaywun marine research vessel since 2023, and coral restoration efforts reaching 1.8 million coral colonies alongside 12,700 artificial reef modules.
Enhanced regulation, conservation and wildlife protection
Operational and regulatory updates reflected EAD’s proactive environmental governance, with around 14,000 conservation patrols identifying approximately 400 violations. The agency issued 2,400 environmental licences and maintained an 89% compliance rate across 1,220 inspections. It also used AI technologies to detect 181 illegal dumping sites and developed a regional roadmap to address transboundary pollution. In addition, Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital treated 1,700 falcons and conducted 29,000 laboratory tests in early 2026, reinforcing wildlife care efforts.
Closing the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan urged continued scientific innovation and strengthened collaboration to safeguard Abu Dhabi’s natural ecosystems and further enhance quality of life across the emirate.
