Sharjah 24 – AFP: A spearfisherman in his thirties has died following a shark attack off Michaelmas Island, marking Australia's fourth fatal shark encounter this year. Local authorities and emergency services reported that the man was targeted by a 4.5-meter shark on Saturday morning in the waters southeast of Perth.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 11:25 am local time after the unconscious diver was brought back to shore. Despite immediate resuscitation efforts by paramedics, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

In the wake of the tragedy, state authorities have issued an advisory urging the public to exercise heightened caution in the area and to closely monitor active shark warning systems.

The incident underscores a recent spike in shark-related fatalities across the country. This tragedy comes just two weeks after a fatal attack in northern Queensland, and marks the second death in Western Australia within a month, following a fatal encounter near Rottnest Island.
