Sharjah 24 – QNA: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Sunday that France has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council following Israel’s capture of the strategic Beaufort Castle (Qalaat Al Shaqif) in southern Lebanon.

France condemns Israeli ground incursion

Barrot described Israel’s ground incursion and expanded military operations in Lebanon as a “grave mistake” and a violation of international law, stressing that nothing justifies the extension of military activity or occupation of Lebanese territory.

Warning over escalating situation in southern Lebanon

He added that the advance contradicts commitments under the ceasefire in place since April 17 and warned of worsening humanitarian and security conditions amid intensified airstrikes and ground operations in southern Lebanon.
