The satellite is designed to enhance China’s role in global numerical weather prediction, support international efforts to tackle climate change, and improve systems for meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation.
The satellite was lifted into space at 3:28 am (Beijing Time) aboard a Long March-4C carrier rocket and successfully entered its designated orbit.
Equipped with nine remote sensing payloads, including a medium-resolution spectral imager and a microwave imager, Fengyun-3 08 will support monitoring and research in weather forecasting, atmospheric chemistry, and climate change, according to the China National Space Administration.
