Sharjah 24 – WAM: The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has intensified its humanitarian response to support those affected by devastating floods that recently hit several provinces and regions in the Philippines.

Delivery of essential relief supplies

The ERC delivered urgent relief including essential food supplies, health kits, shelter materials, clean drinking water, hygiene products, and other necessities.

Impact and beneficiaries

More than 18,000 people benefited from the aid in the SOCCSKSARGEN region on Mindanao Island, as well as in Sultan Kudarat and South Cotabato provinces. The assistance helped alleviate the crisis's impact and meet the urgent needs of the most affected families.

ERC’s humanitarian commitment

The ERC emphasised that its response reflects the UAE’s deeply rooted humanitarian values of solidarity and support for victims regardless of race, religion, or sectarian affiliation.

Local sourcing and coordination

Priority was given to sourcing urgent needs from local markets in the Philippines, coordinated with the UAE Mission in Manila, to ensure swift delivery and coverage of the hardest-hit areas.

Ongoing monitoring and expansion

The ERC confirmed it will continue to monitor the situation and expand operations to address emerging needs.

Background on the disaster

Several days of heavy rainfall caused widespread floods and landslides, resulting in dozens of deaths, displacement of over 80,000 people, and severe damage to homes, infrastructure, schools, and farmland.
