Sharjah 24 – WAM: The UAE has dispatched an urgent relief aircraft carrying 96 tonnes of medical supplies to Botswana, following the declaration of a public health emergency due to critical shortages of essential medicines and equipment.

Supporting global humanitarian efforts

This urgent aid falls under the UAE’s broader global humanitarian initiatives, aimed at supporting early recovery and stability in countries facing health and humanitarian challenges.

Contents of the medical aid shipment

The shipment includes medicines for chronic diseases, in addition to vital medical supplies such as bandages, sutures, and surgical equipment, all intended to address immediate healthcare needs in Botswana.

Strengthening health systems in Africa

Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, stated that this aid is part of the UAE’s commitment to swiftly responding to health crises, strengthening healthcare infrastructure in friendly African nations, and helping limit the spread of epidemics.

Supporting vulnerable populations

Dr Al Ameri added that the assistance will help replenish medicine stocks, support surgical operations, and enhance the health sector’s capacity to serve vulnerable groups, including children, women, and the elderly who depend on Botswana’s public healthcare system.
