Throughout the session, the UAE delegation is engaging with UN member states, officials, and international partners to explore collaborative solutions to some of the most urgent global challenges. Discussions are focused on strengthening collective action and addressing threats to international peace and security.
UAE priorities at UNGA 80
The UAE’s agenda this year is driven by a clear commitment to reinforcing multilateralism and promoting international stability. The country is focusing on reforming the United Nations system to improve its effectiveness and efficiency, enhancing humanitarian response and conflict resolution efforts, promoting peaceful coexistence, and supporting the empowerment of women in global peace and security. The UAE is also advancing efforts related to sustainable development, climate change, and global water security.
Abdullah bin Zayed emphasises role of international cooperation
Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed underlined the importance of international cooperation as key to addressing today’s pressing global issues. He reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to working with international partners in building a peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future. He also reiterated the UAE’s strong alignment with the objectives of the UN80 Initiative, stressing the need for a resilient, efficient, and forward-looking United Nations that can deliver on its mandate and the principles of international law.
In his remarks, he said the next eight decades will demand a United Nations that can unite global efforts, lead collective action, and transform today’s challenges into long-term opportunities for future generations.
UAE participation in key UNGA events
The UAE delegation is also participating in several high-level meetings during UNGA 80. These include the Two-State Solution Conference, the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit, the commemoration of the UN’s 80th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, and the launch of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance.
UAE reaffirms commitment to multilateralism
Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, stressed that the UAE’s vision at UNGA 80 is rooted in the belief that effective multilateralism is the essential path forward. He noted that the UN General Assembly is a critical platform for addressing threats to global peace and security, as well as barriers to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. He also emphasized that strengthening international cooperation and upholding the UN Charter are vital to creating a safer and more prosperous world.
Senior officials join UAE delegation
The UAE’s delegation to UNGA 80 includes top government officials and ministers, reflecting the country’s serious commitment to global diplomacy. Among them are Dr. Anwar Mohammed Gargash, Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Sana Suhail, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, and Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri.
