Sharjah 24 – AFP: The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported that Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) drones dropped four grenades near UN peacekeepers who were clearing roadblocks near the border village of Marwahin. One grenade landed within 20 meters of UN personnel and vehicles, while the other three fell within approximately 100 metres—marking it as "one of the most serious attacks" since the November ceasefire.

Work suspended

UNIFIL confirmed it had informed the IDF beforehand of the road-clearing operation. Following the incident, the work was suspended for safety reasons.

Legal and security concerns

UNIFIL condemned the act as unacceptable and a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international law. The force emphasized that the IDF is responsible for ensuring the safety of peacekeepers during their mandated tasks.

Israeli military response

Israel's military stated that the grenades were "stun" or sonic grenades deployed in response to "suspicious activity," and clarified there was no intention to target the peacekeepers. Communication was reportedly made with UN officials regarding the operation.
