Sharjah 24: As the new academic year 2025/2026 commences, the University of Sharjah (UOS) warmly welcomed its new cohort of students through a rich programme of activities, and orientation and advisory sessions designed to ease their transition into university life.

From August 18 to 24, the University hosted an open week filled with campus tours and informative talks tailored to different student groups. Dedicated days were arranged separately for female students, male students, as well as those enrolled in medical and health sciences colleges. These immersive experiences aimed to familiarise newly admitted students with the University’s extensive academic and student services and to foster a sense of belonging in their new academic environment.

The week culminated in a two-day orientation forum held in the University City Hall, attended by His Excellency Professor Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University, alongside senior administration figures such as vice chancellors, deans, department heads, and faculty members. A significant number of parents and family members also participated, underscoring the community’s collective commitment to student success.

In his welcoming remarks, His Excellency Prof. Agamy expressed pride in the University’s foundation by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, emphasising its mission to blend tradition with modernity. He acknowledged the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University, in steering the institution to confirm its status as a beacon of knowledge, creativity, and innovation. The Chancellor also praised the trust placed in the University by families and reaffirmed its dedication to nurturing well-rounded students equipped with skills and personal attributes to thrive within a safe and inclusive academic setting.

Highlighting the University’s diverse community, Prof. Agamy noted the representation of over 95 nationalities in the UoS student body and 65 among faculty and staff. This multicultural environment enriches the campus experience and promotes openness, creativity, and personal growth.

Special attention was given to students in medical and health-related fields, with the Chancellor emphasising the importance of developing both compassionate care and teamwork skills to prepare them for their vital roles in healthcare.

In her turn, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr Amina Al Marzouqi, underscored the critical role of academic support and encouraged students to actively engage with faculty advisors throughout their studies. She also highlighted the significance of participating in cultural, athletic, social, and artistic activities as integral to the full university experience.

The orientation forum concluded with presentations from the Deanship of Student Affairs showcasing services available to students, inspirational success stories from top-performing students, and introductions to campus clubs and organisations. These sessions provided valuable insights into balancing academic responsibilities with campus life and taking full advantage of the opportunities the University offers beyond the classroom.
