Sharjah 24 – AFP: The measles outbreak in the United States has now exceeded 1,000 confirmed cases this year, with at least three reported deaths, according to local data released Friday.
Texas at the epicenter
An AFP tally recorded at least 1,005 cases, with Texas accounting for more than 70 percent of the total. The CDC’s federal database has lagged behind local state and county updates by several days.
Concerns over vaccine misinformation
The outbreak highlights growing concerns over vaccine hesitancy, fueled in part by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has continued to spread misinformation about the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine, falsely claiming it is dangerous and contains fetal tissue.
Setback for a disease once eliminated
The resurgence marks a significant setback for a disease the U.S. had previously declared eliminated, raising alarms about public health and vaccination rates nationwide.
