US Vice President JD Vance speaks during a quadrilateral meeting between the US, Iran, Pakistan and Qatar in Switzerland
Sharjah 24 – Reuters: US Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Sunday that diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran have made significant progress in recent hours, just ahead of an upcoming round of negotiations in Switzerland.

Speaking prior to a high-level meeting between US and Iranian representatives at the Bürgenstock resort—mediated by Pakistan and Qatar—Vance expressed strong optimism that the dialogue would yield further breakthroughs.

He noted that while long-standing tensions between Iran and its regional neighbors have historically driven instability, there is now a genuine opportunity for all parties to cooperate in pursuit of peace and prosperity.

Vance characterized the high-level engagement as historic and unprecedented, adding that President Donald Trump explicitly instructed the American delegation to initiate a new chapter focused on transforming and expanding relations with the Iranian people.
